Jay-Z Shows He's Still Got It in New Young Forever Video

jay_zJay-Z , aka Shawn Carter, is spending most of his time playing music mogul, but he still as some tunes to share, even at 40. He just released his latest video “Young Forever,” and it’s decidedly more upbeat than his earlier work. Is that a sign of advancing age, or wisdom?

The clip went viral today (Dec. 21) on the Internet and the New York rapper features scenes of children playing that cut to Jay-Z knocking out the song on strage. It even cuts to country, with kids playing in a cornfield and break-dancing.

Is the rapper trying to cross-over? That would be a first, but, hey, why not? If anything, Jay-Z is a music pioneer.

“Young Forever” is off his recent platinum album, The Blueprint 3. If you haven’t got it, you can get it here. Kanye West helmed the track and worked  in his protege, Mr. Hudson, too, who also makes a cameo in the video.

The theme of the video is supposed to be the best is yet to come. If Jay-Z has doubts about his skills, he should take heart that there are always new firsts awaiting, like his first No. 1 record, “Empire State of Mind,” a duet with Alicia Keys, that he just scored.

Anthony Mandler directed the video as well as Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” earlier this year. He also had a hand in videos for Rihanna (“Russian Roulette”), and T.I. (“Live Your Life”), according to MTV.com.

The Swizz Beatz-assisted “On to the Next One” will be Jay-Z’s next video in the United States; it’s tentatively scheduled to debut next month. “Young Forever will only go into rotation overseas.
